Description

Late July is a great time to forage. A number of wild edibles should be in their peak including Staghorn Sumac, and blackberries.

In this class we will walk the grounds of Eisenhower Park in Milford, CT, (approx. 1 mile hike). We will find at least 25 wild edibles and discuss identification, edible components, environmental importance, taxonomy and more. This walk will focus primarily on plants and is geared toward beginner foragers. The class will run approximately two hours. Some of the plants we will be looking at are: Staghorn Sumac, Spicebush, shagbark hickory, wild grape, Autumn Olive, Sassafras  and more.
