Description
In this class we will be walking the beautiful grounds around the White Memorial Conservation Center, (approx. 1 mile hike near the conservation center, primarily in a maintained grassy area). We will be finding, Identifying and discussing wild edibles and medicinals found in the area. For this foraging walk Joe Ross from EatThePlanet.org has teamed up with herbalist and entrepreneur Amelia South. Amelia is the owner of Black Sun Farms where she makes small batch herbal products using the local flora found in CT. This walk will include at least 25 native and introduced trees and herbaceous plants including wild strawberry, spicebush, black walnut, sassafras, stinging nettle, cranberry bush viburnum and others. We will be discussing edible components, medicinal uses, environmental importance, taxonomy and more. The class with run approximately 2 hours.
