Description

In this class we will walk the grounds of Racebrook Tract in Orange, CT, (approx. 1 mile hike). We will find at least 25 wild edibles and discuss identification, edible components, environmental importance, taxonomy and more. This walk will focus primarily on plants and is geared toward beginner foragers. The class will run approximately 2 hours. Some of the plants we will be looking at are: wild black raspberry, dewberry, mugwort, wild grape, garlic mustard, bittercress, yarrow, northern bayberry, black birch  and more. This class will be lead by Joe Ross owner of eattheplanet.org. Please direct all questions to Joe at eattheplanet.org@gmail.com .

This class will cover similar material as my other classes at this site, but each class is unique. During the late summer season we will be focusing primarily on edible berries such as wild grape, kousa dogwood, and dewberries. We may see some later summer and fall mushrooms. We will also be looking at wild nut trees, learning to identify them and discuss their harvest time later in the fall.
