Description

Notice: This class is at 9:00am which is earlier than my usual classes.

In this class we will walk the grounds of Racebrook Tract in Orange, CT, (approx. 1 mile hike). We will find at least 25 wild edibles and discuss identification, edible components, environmental importance, taxonomy and more. This walk will focus primarily on wild edible plants but if the occasional mushroom presents itself we’ll include that as well. The class will run approximately 2 hours. Some of the plants we will be looking at are: wild garlic, mugwort, wild grape, garlic mustard, bittercress, yarrow, northern bayberry, black birch  and more. This class will be lead by Joe Ross owner of eattheplanet.org. Please direct all questions to Joe at eattheplanet.org@gmail.com .

This class will cover similar material as my other classes at this site, but each class is unique. During early spring we’ll be looking for early greens such as bittercress and wild garlic. We’ll be talking about fruit tree cycles and how to start scouting for other wild edibles before they are ripe.
