Description
In this class we will be walking the beautiful grounds around the White Memorial Conservation Center, (approx. 1 mile hike near the conservation center, primarily in a maintained grassy area). In this class we will be focusing on learning to identify over 25 local trees. We will also discuss edible components, environmental importance, taxonomy and more. Trees are often surprisingly good wild edibles due to their relative permanence and large biomass potential. The class will run approximately 2 hours. Some of the trees we will be looking at are: Eastern Hemlock, Sugar Maple, Bald Cypress, Black Walnut, Yellow Birch, Tuliptree, Sassafras, a number of oak species and more. This class will be lead by CT arborist and owner of eattheplanet.org Joe Ross. Please direct all questions to Joe at eattheplanet.org@gmail.com .
